Thursday in Blue

If you've been following this blog for a while, you've probably noticed that I have a love for denim vests. A good denim vest is a wardrobe staple for me, and I'm always on the hunt for a another one. I picked up this beauty this past weekend at a thrift store when I was visiting my family. It's a size too small so it doesn't button up, but I don't typically wear them buttoned up anyway. It was too perfect to pass up! This brings my denim vest total to four.

The top I wore today is actually a maternity swimsuit top. I found it at Goodwill a couple of months ago. I've been meaning to alter it into a bikini top as it came with some great high waist bottoms. I think it totally works as a top! I'm in love with the little daisy details at the bust.

The daisies from the swim top gave it a playful vibe so I decided to play up that feel with some candy accessories. I really wish I had a pair of heart shaped sunglasses!

Fatshion Faceoff: Shorts

It's once again time for another Fatshion Faceoff! This week's challenge item was chosen by Hanna of The Wardrobe Challenge. She went with shorts!
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, summer has already begun! What better challenge to start off the Summer than shorts?

Button Up Blouse: Walmart (Similar)
Blue Shorts: ASOS Curve (via my friend, Natalie) (Similar)
Brown Belt: Thrifted
Tan Oxfords: Steve Madden (via DSW) (Similar)

These shorts were purchased by my friend Natalie (who I actually channeled her style into this outfit), but she didn't like how they fit her so I bought them off of her. I really like them! They're a great length -- that grey area between short-shorts and bermudas. The only thing I dislike about them is if you tuck anything into them you can see it so terribly (as seen by these photos - oh well!).
Many plus size women think shorts are not an option for them but that just isn't so! It's summer; it's hot. You have every right to wear shorts! Too many summers have I confined myself to pants and was all around miserable (Texas summers and pants really don't mix well). If you feel self conscious, I'd suggest starting off with a longer length short or maybe wearing shorts over tights (which I love doing in the winter!).

The above photo is Natalie's outfit that I got my inspiration from! She's definitely one of my most fashionable friends.

I'm sorry I didn't get any photos of my accessories. There was a wasp flying around my porch so I didn't want to be out there longer than I had to. I actually ended up running inside a few times while Craig was taking these photos because I was so scared (see next photo, haha!).

A blurry photo of me running inside my apartment, scared of a wasp.
Check out the other Fatshion Faceoff ladies! Maybe you'll be inspired to wear shorts, if you didn't previously?

Fatshion Faceoff: Floral Skirt

It's already time for another Fatshion Faceoff challenge! If you're new to my blog, Fatshion Faceoff is a collaboration group I'm involved with in which one blogger chooses an item (article of clothing, shoes, accessory, etc.), and all of the Fatshion Faceoff members create outfits around the item. We take turns choosing the item so it can be very challenging at times! We post our challenge outfits every Wednesday at 3 pm (CST).

This week Mhairi of Lilybobombs Lovely Lumps picked the challenge item - a floral skirt.

Okay, I'm going to admit it now, I didn't actually wear this today! I know, I know, it's cheating, but I didn't do anything this weekend aside from homework and being lazy at home, and I work in a library so I choose to dress more casual for comfort's sake - not that 'comfort' has to be boring! I just prefer to wear flats to work, and the look I was going for needed heels, for me at least. I'm thinking about wearing this to my cousin's graduation this Saturday instead. So what do you think? Anything I should change?

Yes, yes. I realize all my poses are pretty much the same, and I have serious bitch face going on today. There was a soccer game going on outside, and I felt awkward taking pictures on the porch. There was also bad lighting, and I hated the photos with flash so I had to adjust the photos in Photoshop accordingly.
Floral Bodycon Skirt: Forever 21+ (Gifted)
Sheer Button Up with Stripe Detail: Thrifted
Black Tank: Old Navy
T-Strap Platforms: Charlotte Russe (Gifted)

Also, you probably noticed I colored my hair (really, how could you not? Haha!). I've been blonde pretty much my whole life so this is a drastic change for me. It's still hard to get used to it, quite honestly, but I do love it. It's just so different. What do you think of the change?
I really love these Cover Girls lipsticks. This shade is called Eternal. I have not always been a lipstick wearer, but that's started to change the past couple of months. I was always afraid lipstick looked weird on me, and I would get so hung up on getting the "correct" color to match my skin tone. Since I stopped worrying so much, I've started loving buying lipsticks and trying out different colors -- though, I do have the problem of always being similar shades to what I already own (I can't help but love hot pink!). I'm trying to branch out more. If you have any favorite lipsticks, let me know!

This photo is incredibly blurry, but I felt it necessary to include it because it shows off this amazing nail varnish I borrowed from my friend. If you want to see a better photo, check out my instagram photo. I feel like a mermaid wearing pearls on my fingers!

Reader Request: Print Pants

I received a message from a reader suggesting print pants for a future Fatshion Faceoff as she recently bought of a pair of trousers from New Look. Unfortunately, I do not own a pair of print pants (though I'd love to!) so I suggested I'd style a few outfits for her instead. This is my first reader request on the blog. I hope everyone enjoys the three looks I came up with!

Look One: Boho-Hipster Chic

(White Tank / Old Navy, Black Belt / ASOS Curve, Statement Necklace / Topshop, Bag / Topshop, Braided Sandals / Old Navy, Print Trousers / New Look Inspire)

Look Two: A Night Out

(Sheer Top / City Chic, Gold Earrings / Topshop, Black Strappy Wedges / Torrid, Black Clutch with Gold Details / ASOS, Print Trousers / New Look Inspire)

Look Three: Casual Hard Femme

(Sheer Button Up / New Look Inspire, Denim Vest / New Look Inspire, Gold Necklace / ASOS, Gold Spike Ring / Chubby Cartwheels, Black Studded Flats / Torrid, Print Trousers / New Look Inspire)

Soooo, yeah! Let me know what you think of the outfits. Would you wear any of them? Which is your favorite? If you have any suggestions for another reader request, request away.

Fatshion Faceoff: Striped Skirt

This week's Fatshion Faceoff challenge item was selected by me! I bought this skirt last month, but I had not worn it out yet. That's what I love about these Fatshion Faceoff challenges -- they push me out of my comfort zone and force me to try new things.

Anyway, I accidentally ordered the skirt in one size too big, but by the time I received it, the skirt was sold out in my size. That's how online shopping goes! Though it's too big, I can still make it work with this stretchy at-the-waist belt. I do plan on "fat hacking" it with a seam ripper to open up the waistband and tighten up the elastic for a better fit. And, is it just me or has anyone else noticed that Forever 21+'s sizing has changed in the past year? I feel like I used to fit the 3X almost exclusively and now I'm fitting into the 2X better (and, no, I have not lost weight). I love their clothes, but I'm always scared of ordering from them because of the sizing.

My grandma gave me this top two or so years ago, and I don't wear it nearly as often as I'd like. I recently got rid of a bunch of clothes that I don't really wear or that aren't really my style anymore (with the help of my friend). I had completely forgotten about this top until I went through my clothes! I love the color as well as the style, and the fabric is super soft and stretchy, too.

Peacock Blue Blouse with Cut Out Shoulders: Kenneth Cole (Gifted) (Similar, Similar)
Black and White Striped Hi Low Skirt: Forever 21+ (Similar, Similar)
Black Belt: Target
Black with Stud Detailing and Rope Heel Wedges: Coconuts (via DSW) (Similar)

Black Shoulder Purse: Thrifted (Similar)
Dangle Blue Teardrops Earrings: Apt. 9 (via Kohl's) (Similar)
Floral Oversized Sunglasses: Target (Similar)

This photo is from the previous day or so, but my nails are still painted the same. I'm rather obsessed with this particular color from Essie (if you remember, I posted about it on my most recent Currently Digging piece). This is one of my go to colors for when I can't make up my mind. I think it's a perfect shade for spring and summer!

Base Coat: Turquoise & Caicos by Essie
Glitter Coat: Milani Jewel FX in Gold
Top Coat: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

I really love this outfit I put together. Not too bad for only 3 hours of sleep, huh? Yeah, finals are killing me this week...

Check out the other lovely Fatshion Faceoff bloggers and how they style the challenge item of my choosing, a striped skirt!

April Wrap Up

Though April was not quite as eventful as March for blogging, here is what I did!
  • Helped a friend organize a plus size clothing swap in my city. It was our biggest one yet! I got some fantastic pieces and purged my wardrobe of items I don't wear as often. The bottom three photos include items that I received from the swap - a striped vest, an olive green skirt, brown sandals, and a fun splatter print mini dress.
  • Met Dani of DIYFATSHION. Dani and I live in the same city, but we had never met before. I met her for the first time at our swap. Check out an outfit she styled for one of our Fatshion Faceoff challenges wearing a blouse I donated to the swap!
  • Got my septum pierced. I got my very first facial piercing this month! Very exciting.
  • Reviewed some beauty products for a Currently Digging segment. Be sure to check out the post if you missed it!
  • Gave my blog a makeover! Do you like it?
Goals for May:
  • Finally get around to posting a DIY tutorial or two.
  • Find a great swimsuit.
  • Get through finals and the end of the semester in one piece!
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for May. Styling tips? Reviews? Anything!

Thanks for reading and following!
